The guys point of view could’ve been better and he was a not the ideal hero. I guess it was more realistic that way but I’m reading to escape reality. No need to bring gaslighting and poor communication into my fantasy world.

Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever read. Terribly written, characters are awful, plot is repetitive, truly awful.

It's way too long for what it is.

I'm nearly 70% in, but my goose is cooked. The premise had started rather interesting, but good gods, it's unbearable. The fights between these two are downright toxic, and if they were people I knew, I'd either tell them to get therapy or dump the both of them.

I think the author wanted to go for a heroine that doesn't care about money, but the way she came across is downright unrealistic. She apparently prefers going grocery shopping, and prefers making a meal for her hard working partner after a long day at work. Riiight. Because when you're brain dead from a super intense job, chores are absolutely what you want to do next.

Let's not forget she is totally self respecting but she was in a committed relationship for a year with a twerp who had no self respect, much less any for their relationship. So many of her outbursts come across like the pipe dream of someone who's dreaming of meeting a millionaire and then dragging them down to "real person level". It's hard to describe, really, but it oozes between the lines and it gets sickly real quick.

The hero of the story isn't much of a hero either, because he has so many red flags he could probably start a business supplying China for theirs. He's vicious when slighted, has no capacity for constructive conversations, doesn't open up, and during the camping trip came across as a spotty 13 year old, not a 37 year old adult who can cope with a shit situation that their partner is interested in.

I just got to a point where I couldn't take more of the bullshit. I have too long a to-read list to spend more time on this.

I cannot do 500+ pages of this. The MMC is a complete asshole, and the FMC can't decide on a personality. These people are supposed to be adults ffs, yet they fight like toddlers, and no amount of spicy one liners is going to make up for the writing.

The MMC is so toxic and rude. I liked Emily and the spicy scenes but Jim/James is just rude, controlling and manipulative, plus he keeps secrets (part of the manipulation). I don't know how Emily puts up with him. I think she's dickmatized and calls that love. He's just horrible and reminds me of previous partners I was in an abusive relationship with.

The first half of the book I didn’t like much. It’s written like their sexual attraction was so strong they couldn’t resist, regardless of how it hurt them. They argued constantly and treated each other horribly.

Then Jameson flips a switch and decides to be with Emily, and suddenly they’re sweet to each other and it’s a nice romance. Until the 3rd act breakup, where Jameson is horrible again. I don’t know how, but they get their HEA and if you can believe it, it was pretty sweet.

Then next book is supposed to be about the nice brother, so I’ll give it a try.

TW/CW details about infidelity
Jameson had an agreement with his ex fiance. While long distance, they could sleep around but couldn’t get serious with anyone else, and they were going to get fully back together after five years of Claudia working her dream job in London. Emily didn’t know anything about that arrangement until they’d been together a few weeks. Jameson broke it off with Claudia and then told Emily. There is also a side character who found evidence his boyfriend was cheating (all off page) and struggled to end the relationship.

I liked the writing style and most of the characters, especially the side characters. Jameson and Emily had good chemistry. However, I'm no fan of the way Jameson treated Emily throughout the whole book. He was too arrogant and never really focused on her wishes.
The storyline was interesting, even though talking could have easily solved some of the misunderstandings between the main characters.
