Coming in January 2022, Maggie Rowe offers a memoir of living with mental health challenges from both sides of the 'privilege' aisle. Rowe, actress, writer and spouse of Jim Vallely (Golden Girls writer) has struggled with some rare mental health challenges related to OCD and anxiety. Over the years she has tried every doctor/method/pharmaceutical in an effort to get well. Rowe and her husband also befriended Joanna (and her mother), a woman with autism living in subsided housing and occasionally begging for change outside the coffee shop. Rowe explores the complicated emotions involved in wanting to help someone but not wanting to be taken advantage of, wanting to think of oneself has kind and giving but maybe only to a point, observing the very different access to care different folks have, and the challenges of living with mental health difficulties.
