  • pretty enjoyable to read, sometimes i forgot which animals were who but that was more on me than the book
  • i’d read it again and definitely annotate next time
  • interesting connections to communism and capitalism especially with the themes and ideas centralised around the cold war and west vs east ideologies (USA/USSR)
  • i would’ve LOVED to read this in school it would’ve been way more enjoyable compared to anything we were given

If I have to recommend a classical book to a friend who is interested in history and politics, this is a solid contender. But don't expect much if you are into world-building, loveable characters, and dialogues. Overall, a quick fable to past the time while reflecting on how messed up our society is.

Animal Farm was on a book challenge list and it was short, so I gave it a try. It has a lot of similarities to 1984, Orwell's best-known work, specifically the use of changing history to best suit the present, the use of a mouthpiece to speak for the ruler, and the use of scapegoats to cover when things go wrong. It was also dark and violent.

If you want to read an Orwellian look at the world, read 1984.
