A very intriguing read with twists galore and characters that you love and some you want to make disappear. I was happy to be back in Grimstone because book 1 captivated me and really set the bar with mysterious gothic vibes and I expected the same in those one because the Monarch Hotel has those vibes in spades, and I got that just not in the ways I was wanting. We have Elena who has agreed to an arranged marriage in order to escape her life in Ukraine and I enjoyed her character in some aspects by how sweet she was with her fiancé’s daughter, Ivy, and how she hoped for the best. Yes, in other aspects I found her to be a bit naive for a 27 year old who has lived a hard life to the point it was distracting at times, especially how she ignores time and time again Lorne’s atrocities. Lorne is her fiancé and from the jump he gives off creep vibes, which he is suppose to, but the way Elena keeps trying to find the good in him was too much for this dud. The minute she steps foot in the Monarch, Elena is spotted by the owner, Atlas, and he is instantly taken by her while getting the same creeper vibes off her fiancé. I wish we had more of a development in the pull between these two without Elena’s hang up on Lorne, but overall I enjoyed the story just felt like there were more questions I had than answers and not enough of the gothic that the town of Grimstone offers.

Nope. Sorry. Only a few pages in. Not appropriate for me and I don’t recommend for your teen daughters either. Big stay away from for me.

DNF at 60%
I can’t do it anymore

Everything was so obvious.
The “romance” was forced and weird and too fast.
The child neglect wasn’t rectified quickly enough for my liking.
Nothing at all was happening?

The mail order bride thing was a weird choice.
I just wasn’t feeling it at all.
