elhaaim's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH

Quite disappointing compared to the first book. The first book already felt quite safe - not a lot of high stakes for the characters and everything just seemed to happen at the right time before anyone could get really hurt. Which was fine to read. But the "betrayal" at the end of book 1 was barely a betrayal... so coming into this second book and seeing the FMC feel so much hurt
over a marriage clause to the love of her life
was odd since it was clearly what she wanted anyway. Read The Bridge Kingdom if you want a true betrayal.

Then I DNF'd a third of the way in because my biggest pet peeve is poor writing. The number one thing people tell you in creative writing is "show, not tell" and the author did a great job doing the complete opposite. So much inner monologuing, excessive descriptions of how what the FMC and MMC observes or experiences makes them feel, instead of showing it through dialogue or her behavior. The writing felt less edited than the first book as a result.

I guess since the first book was quite safe regarding the plot, there really wasn't much to look forward to in this sequel except seeing the MMC and FMC get back together, which, was for sure going to happen. I mean,
the FMC already got her dragons back in the first book, she apparently doesn't need to spend time relearning to have a relationship with all five of them, she's still queen of her old kingdom and is now queen of the new kingdom
, she doesn't have any adjustment period to that.... I mean, the girl isn't growing. And the Kingdom politics felt un-emphasized compared to the main characters' romance.

This book has everything! A strong FMC and swoon-worthy MMC in a marriage of convenience, loveable side characters with snarky quips, banter, and fantastic chemistry. The found family we'd all kill for. Beautiful world building with complex politics and intense battle scenes. A heart wrenching ending that will wreck you in the best ways.

This was a disappointing book because I loved the first book so much! I feel like nothing really happened in this book until 50-60% and then it went into a lull again until the end. And even the end didn't redeem it for me. I'm still going to read the next book because I want to see what happens but I won't be in a rush to read it. Pacing was off. But bright side I'm intrigued by the new characters introduced.

This is one of those books that you recommend to people because you love it so much, but know it’s going to rip them apart. I cannot wait for the next book!

What a ride! This sequel fixed my biggest gripe from book one—finally delivering rich world-building, political intrigue, and even a glossary of lore. 🙌 The start felt a bit slow, but once it took off, I was hooked. Elowen shines as a fire-wielding dragon queen (and stress baker 👩🏻‍🍳), while Cayden Veles is the ultimate morally grey simp—ruthless, devoted, and utterly swoon-worthy. 🖤 The dragons stole every scene, alliances deepened, and the battles were epic. That ending twist? I’m still reeling. 🫨 If you love yearning, dragons, and vengeance, this series is a must.
