I didn't expect to like this book but I stuck with it and I'm so glad I did!! Fast paced action and basically one plot line. I highly recommend it.

The first book in the Puller series felt like exactly like a Reacher book and the character of Puller felt like a carbon copy of Reacher. The similarities between the two characters is still there but less so.
The story is fantastic though, better than the first book in the series, a story of human trafficking and the slave trade and how the death of Puller's elderly aunt ties into it. This story is full of lots of twists and turns and I love how much of it seems disconnected at times but all comes together nicely. The story is superb and worth the time it takes to read it on its own.
Puller is still a great and interesting character, as the story progressed it dealt very little with Puller's backstory and his development as a character and that was sad, but it was more than made up for by developing a supporting cast that was amazing. Mecco proved to be an even more interesting character than Puller as the book progressed and I hope we get to see him again either in this series or better yet in his own seperate series.
A great book from beginning to end and I can't wait for the next Puller book.

Army investigator John Puller arrives in the town of Paradise, Florida, after learning about the death of his aunt, who raised him when he was a little boy. She had sent a letter, saying she thought something hinky is going on - and indeed it is! Turns out Paradise is anything but that, a hotbed of crime involving fraud and human trafficking! Puller must figure out what exactly got his aunt killed, and who did it.
The John Puller series is obviously Baldacci's attempt to take on the lone-wolf avenger subgenre popularised by Lee Child. A lot of other reviewers have pointed out the similarities to Jack Reacher! I read the first in the series, and remember enjoying it, but couldn't remember a thing about it! It didn't effect the enjoyment of this story. Yes, it's all a big, dumb boy's own action adventure story, with questionable writing, bad dialogue and cringe-inducing jingoism, but it works very well on its own level. First there was intrigue, and then there was action aplenty. Nobody could ever accuse it of being anything more than an empty, fast food style beach read, but it's an entertaining one! I may pick up the next one in the series.

This book was not quite as good as its sequel (I read them out of order), but it had also been a few years since I read the first book in the series. The book moved quickly and stayed on track. Enough detail to get you locked into the story, but not so much that it slowed things down.

I don't like the writing at all. The only reason I was able to finish the book was because I wanted to find out more about the murder of his aunt, as the crime part of the book did get me hooked.

This was also interesting, and a good follow-up to the first.
