Beautiful and haunting. I wish it had ended before the final two chapters or so, as I felt that would have been more satisfying. However, this is the sort of book I feel I would need to read again to catch all.the symbolism.

A great dystopian novel that is sort of Lord of the flies set in today world. A group of children and parents go on a summer vacation rental s. And not so power. I think it is closed 2021. However there are also elements as most of the people are concerned about the future of the world. The category for hurricane comes up the coast a lot of the amenities there used to. The children have already proven that they are self-sustaining by going to an island and living for a week or so at a time. The parents don't seem to care at all. Parents are very interested in getting drunk doing drugs and not so much with parents.. he suggests that they need to be because of diseases that will come from the water. So the children leave with him go to another property that you care takes for. So parents seem angry about this and one of them follows the children. However she is pregnant and goes into labor upon finding her daughter the baby is going there at the new property which is a barn and cottage. The baby is fine however the mother passes away. The rest of the world seems so caught up and is even becoming lawless indeed gotten sick from something called dengue fever. So some of the children go back to the house with girl another man that who has impatient to give the transmission. There are lots of supplies the owners business stockpile before such disasters. They eventually become laughs about security and a group of men come in with guns and take everything. They also torture one of the "angels". So one of the kids called the parents to come help them. The parents arrive but are of no help at all. However the owner of the house arrives and takes care of the lawless band. The parents and children therefore move on together to one of the family's rich compound somewhere in the north. They live there for a while and the children continue through that they are much more capable than than their parents of surviving in this type of world. The kids have created hydroponics and other necessary things to survive in this world the parents just eventually wander off. The ending is a b**** vague as you think the narrator's brother is going to die of an illness. But the novel ends before you discover whether he survived or died. It's a great Lord of the flies like book that tries to ponder if children can create their own society without adults. Very interesting novel that deserves a read.

this was just so simply an amazing book; was quite gripped and I can’t wait to read more of her. a perfect telling of the darkness of the future, and the inherent necessity to hold onto hope.
