There is something about high school relationships (platonic and otherwise) that is soOo irresistible to me—the intensity of emotion? the feeling that they are *everything* in the moment with the hindsight of knowing that your world is so small when you’re 17? and I loved how the story was rooted in the present, with the realities of being 33 and living a full life before coming back together, while interweaving the HS/college friendship/romance to be just as poignant. I found both of them extremely relatable at times and extremely unlikable in others, and I really liked that!! Usually despise the miscommunication trope but this might be the first story where I appreciated it. Maybe bc it came so early, and the actual story was about working through it as adults? Also appreciated the depiction of parenthood lol. This book really grew on me… strong 4

I don't know what this says about me but I found Shiloh really relatable, especially in her teenage version. Flawed but relatable. Cary, Mikey, and Shiloh felt like the bitter-but-secretly-earnest theatre kids I'd hang out with when I was younger. I also liked the sweet but not overly sentimental look at second-chance romance with kids involved, ex-partners, long-distance worries. And the ending!
