Quite an average spelling of the history of the British empire. The author seems pretty concerned about drawing uncontroversial conclusions especially for the political climate of today, and therefore hedges too much and waters down the conclusions.

It was a compulsory read for one of my course this semester. I think it was very dense, it gives a lot of context and examples. I needed to take breaks sometimes because of that. Overall it is a good intro it gave me important elements to start the course and for exams moreover it gives a great bibliography at the end.

Good for overview of Empire history (start to finish/present) and some historiography

Not really what I was expecting. I wanted to read this before I go back to college to recap on the British Empire but it didn't include as much of the timeline and key events of empire as I'd hoped for. It was still an interesting read, I enjoyed seeing multiple arguments and perspectives.
