Icelandic soap opera. Better than reality tv!

My favourite characters are the women, especially when they get frustrated by the men. There's also some great side eye by the narrator every now and then. I read this to prepare for an Iceland trip but, hilariously, it is not set in Iceland at all! I do appreciate the significance of the Icelandic sagas in recording so much other history.

It is the Volsungs. Ragnar and Sigurd included. It is a classic for anyone interested in the Vikings/Germanics. My biggest critique would be it is read very scholarly, which is not surprising, since the translator reads it. The introduction is great and very informative.

The sagas are great, and well-told. The introduction was kind of dry, but it provided a lot of interesting information about the characters and the history. I enjoyed the stories quite a lot.
