The Murder Game

Like Chase was sent to a boarding school for rich kids after he escaped his kidnappers. Everyone assumed he'd be safe there. But one night, he and his best friend Oscar sneak out to meet up with a couple girls. They hear someone in the woods where they're hiding and run back to their rooms. Only that person is found dead the next day. Now the school doesn't seem so safe. The police seem to think Oscar is the murderer, which leaves Luke to prove it wasn't him. And now the real killer  wants to stop him before he becomes a hero again.

This was a fast-paced, fun YA thriller. It definitely felt like it was aimed at a younger audience so I felt a little too old for this one. However, it was a quick easy read. It was a little predictable, but it was enjoyable. I did feel like there was a lot of build up for a very rushed ending. This would be a great book for teens dipping their toes into the thriller genre.

It was good but I knew who it was the whole time.

I binge-read this in, like, three and a half hours straight in English class. That’s how good the mystery was.

2.5 I might have enjoyed this more if it presented itself as the regular murder mystery that it is, instead of a thriller. I'm still not sure what the game was supposed to be either. It wasn't too bad overall though, if a little too cliché at times, it just wasn't what I expected and wanted to read when I picked it up. I also wish it had used the setting of the school and the woods more to create an atmosphere. It was all just a little too bland unfortunately.
