5 stars for the narrator. I could listen to Edoardo Ballerini read anything! 2.5 stars for the story which would probably have felt a little tedious without Ballerini's beautiful voice reading it to me.
Me encantó éste libro de principio a fin. Definitivamente un libro lleno misterio.

I finished this book a few days ago on vacation, so that could skew my memories of it, but I had to think really hard to remember what happened. So, in other words, this book is forgettable. The characters weren't really relatable and the ending was a little transparent once the climax started. It was entertaining enough on vacation, but probably not worth the time in real life.
Engaging premises - a group of geeky teen misfits invent a computer game called "Ripper" to solve real life crimes. Well written but the ending kind of fell flat. On the other hand, I'd be interested in reading a sequal.
Didn't really work as a mystery (the pacing was terrible, and the final reveal was well, a bit bizarre-are we really still doing this trope?)
That said, it was readable as an Allende novel. I did enjoy many of the characters. Overall it wasn't a bad experience, but it's not one I'd want to repeat.

Really could and should have edited - so many unnecessary chapters.
Not my thing. Murder novels are supposed to be griping this one just wasn't for me.
I have to admit I had identified the killer very early on in this book, but I still enjoyed listening to the Ripper gang's careful investigation. The whole story (beyond the calculated killings of course, which was sadly not at all surprising given what the killer had endured) seemed a tiny bit farfetched, but it was good entertainment on a long road trip. I will keep reading Allende's books, since I can get most of them on CD at the library, and the quality of the writing is reliably good. This one might be be more popular with YA, since the protagonist is a socially awkward young woman not yet in college.
So I read this for the murder mystery part of the 2016 reading challenge, but the murder mystery part wasn't really the main focus of the story. It was good apart from the fact that I didn't really care about who was the killer. I enjoyed the writing style, the diversity of characters, and the story as a whole.
