Too research based for my liking. Felt like there was an over dose of background information and not enough "real-life" information.

The high school version of me would have loved having this as a book report topic. It is well written and occasionally informative, but it never quite delivered the deeper insight I was hoping for. It felt more like background noise than something that held my full attention. Even high school me might have struggled to finish it. It is just a bit too long for what it offers.

Interesting information but it is a little wordy for my taste.

This book was terrible. The reason why I started it was because I thought that perhaps I'd learn a little bit about what goes on in my dog's head. The only interesting part in the whole book was the crappy evidence given for the numerous experiments described in the book. Of course your dog isn't going to save you when you're stuck underneath a fake book shelf, crying out in pain because in one of your prior chapters, you claimed that they can smell our emotions, so the dogs APPARENTLY could smell the lack of fear! Wouldn't bother reading this piece of crapola...

I enjoyed this a lot and found it incredibly interesting. My only wish is that the author had addressed other views of animal behavior study, because she said some things about dog behavior aren’t researched since scientists believe doing so would require jumping to conclusions. The author, who I believe is an ethnologist, performs research in a more personal and less subjective way than zoologists might. Of course, neither method is necessarily better, but I would have just liked a little bit more information from both sides of animal behavior research. Still, I learned a lot and reading this was time well spent
