This book totally changed how I see and interact with dogs. It seems like common sense to me now, but it gave me a whole new appreciation for dogs.
I was hoping this would be more like Radiolab's brand of science, or maybe a Mary Roach type of look at dogs, but it's not quite as much of a page turner--maybe because it's actually written by a scientist and not a journalist. This is a benefit in a lot of ways though. I would still really recommend it if you are all about your dog(s) like I am and wishing you understood how they think or see the world. We can't ever really know what our dogs are thinking, but this book really helped me understand how my dog is processing the world around differently than humans. Really glad I read this.

Good read that gave me lots of insights into my puppy's strange behaviors, wants, needs & dreams.
A little too analytical and scientific for my liking. But it's tricky to blend non-fiction with story-telling about dogs.
It has led to many more "smell walks" for Frida, which she really enjoys a lot.

Anyone who has ever loved a dog needs to read this book. Dogs are so often thought of in two extremes: just an animal/ working dog or a child. This book really delves into what makes the dog neither of these, but a truly amazing animal all its own based almost entirely on its relationship to humans.

It was alright. I was hoping for some better insights to interacting with my dog, and I didn't really get that. I was kind of bored most of the time. Other than the occasional fun fact, most of it wouldn't help me build better relationships because it wasn't relevant or seemed obvious. I guess I just came in with the wrong expectations.

“... is something no one has ever said.”
- what a dummy narrative tool.
How did she not cover separation anxiety in depth? So weird. There were like 5 to 6 takeaways about dog behavior that were interesting. Not worth the time commitment

Marked it as read, but got about half-way through. Was really excited to read this book, but it was very very dry! After finishing my master's program, it felt like reading a graduate level book. Was hoping for something more engaging and fun! Maybe I'll pick it up again, but I need something a little more engaging!
