I came to this series after reading the Ever King/Queen. I was excited to read the prequel with the parents only to realize I had started the book before. I liked the characters and the first book, but the pacing in this one was disappointing. It seemed to drag over several chapters just to rush through the action. I’m going to try the next book because I still want to learn more about the characters I met in the Ever books. I’m hoping the next one picks up more.

The only reason it wasn’t four stars is because they kept getting captured and getting saved and getting captured and getting saved etc etc and frankly, I got bored of it BUT I will continue reading the series because I like the storyline and have high hopes. I mean there’s foots be 9 books for a reason right?

I enjoyed this overall, but didn’t love it. I found the plot to be somewhat dragging, and I was disappointed by the amount of romance. the author made it sound like there would be more spice than there is. this is still basically identical to FBAA but way less spice. we did get introduced to some cool side characters (ari, junie, calista) but there were definitely still some lulls imo. unsure if i’ll continue reading. I don’t really feel the urge to continue the story. like i’m not dying to know what happens? the world building is still pretty cool, so maybe i’ll return to the series later. tbd.

I stand by my theory that second books in a series are the worst. This is definitely not as good as the first one. Nothing happens for the first 80%. And then all of the sudden we're at war. It gives whiplash.
