This took me forever to finish but there was a lot about it I loved. The awful characters, the world building, The Institute, the horror elements.

The way it is written isn’t for me right now. I’ll shelf it and give it a shot later.

Last 30% of the book had a very different tone/viewpoint to the first 70%; I have to say I thought that first part was much, much more compelling than the second.

Really liked the tone of the book, but I must say I find the ending a bit rushed compared with the rest of the story, like the author either wanted to write another book and turn it into a series or just grew bored and wanted to finish it asap.

At first this book started off very slow (in my personal opinion). I could only get through a few chapters at a time before needing to take a break and do something else. It finally picked up around chapter 7. But before that it kinda felt very back and forth with the pacing. It felt like something really interesting would happen and then it would slow right back down and offer up a ton of information. Not that there's anything wrong with that, not everything needs to be fast paced and full of action, it just took some time for me to actually get into it. I stuck with it though because the concept as a whole with the narrator is really interesting. And I'm glad I did. It was fantastic. Even if I was confused a lot of the time. I can't wait to listen to the audiobook and experience this all over again. Also, there was just casually a trans character and I adore that.
