2.25⭐️ As a huge Bill Gates fan I had high hopes that Source Code: My Beginnings would be a great book that I could recommend to others. Unfortunately, I was a bit let down— it’s not a bad book, but it turned out to be one that I might reply “meh” to when asked how it is. While it is enjoyable to read about Gates childhood, coming of age, and how he found his footing in the nascent PC industry, by the 3/4 mark the story gets bogged down by extraneous details that make it hard to stay engaged. Not only that, but this book also suffers from its limited scope— it would be a more well-rounded read if it did a better job of tying the story back to modern day and offered more insight on how Gates’ source code continues to be a foundational part of how he operates.
