When I was a young girl who struggled daily to read at the same pace as her peers, a librarian recommended this book and changed my life.
This is the book that made 9-year-old me fall in love with reading. It also made me want to be a knight, much to the dismay of my brother, who now had to share his toy swords. I love these books to this day.
Do the tween/teen girls in your life a favour, and get them this book.

I can see the reason why this is so loved. For it's time, and even some aspects of it for the modern day is really appealing. There are some parts that haven't aged well, as can be expected for an 80's book. But it was fun

Fantastic Young Adult book with a strong female heroine. This was the first Fantasy novel I ever read, and I continued to read all of Tamora Pierce's other books. The Lioness Quartet is meant for teenage girls, as is The Immortals and The Protector of the Small series. Her Beka Cooper Series was slightly more advanced, and I enjoyed reading all of them.

Lovely young adult fantasy from the 1980s. Though here the decade is not so apparent, I had to look it up.
