Day dream or living nightmare?

I am just shaking my head and staring slack jawed at the blank page. End of Day is an amazing blend of then and now. Two love stories woven in the fabric of a scratchy blanket. The kind someone knits for show but not use. Gorgeous colors seemingly tentatively put together. However, I know for a fact Jewel E. Ann doesn't do anything half assed.

End of Day is a whirlwind of who should I love? Who do I love? Why Snuffy?

Amazing and tragic with hilarious (like too awkward not be real but who would ever admit it!?!) situations. Unleash your inner romantic and fall in love with the past and the present.

So I’m starting my month out strong with one of my faves, no one can take you on an emotional roller coaster like Jewel. The Jack and Jill series has been on my TBR for too long and I’m almost embarrassed, I know I’m mad at myself, because I shouldn’t have waited to read this.

End of Day is the first book in this series, and it does its job by introducing these characters who on the surface are not easy to love. Both AJ and Jillian have demons from their pasts that are making it very difficult for them.

And with this being the first book know that there are going to be questions you are not going to get the answers for. BUT, have no fear because book 2 & 3 are already out so you won’t have to wait. I know I’m not going to wait!

So don’t be like me, don’t sleep on this series, go grab them and read them all! I just finished book 1 and am jumping right into book 2, I couldn’t stop if I wanted to!

Reading is one of my favorite pastimes, but when you’re an avid reader who reads well over 100 novels per year, many books tend to blend together. Authors that bring something fresh to the table stand a better chance of producing work that stands out. Jewel E. Ann brought her A-game with End of Day and I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like it. She has woven together a gripping, intriguing, and clever novel that I could not put down. What a fantastic start to the series.

Other than the somewhat cryptic book blurb, I knew nothing about the plot before I started this book. I didn’t read any reviews either and I believe my enjoyment was heightened because I went into it blind. Here’s my attempt at writing a good review that gives little away.

End of Day is a romantic-suspense / dramedy / mystery. It is also one huge mindf*ck! It deals with violent subject matter but I wouldn’t classify it as dark fiction; I’d say it falls more on the grey spectrum. It is not a paranormal romance.

Thirty year-old twins Jillian and Jackson Knight have just moved to a quiet Omaha retirement community under unknown circumstances. While Jackson embraces their fresh start, Jillian is resistant. The story is told in the third person and centers around Jillian. Always the rule breaker, Jillian relishes giving the male residents heart palpitations by getting her mail clad only in panties, a tank top, and red rain boots. She’s the type of complex protagonist I can really sink my teeth into: damaged, volatile, snarky, nurturing, alluring, and a total badass. Jillian strikes up a dangerous flirtation with AJ, her perpetually grouchy next-door neighbor, who also happens to be a veteran suffering from PTSD. Is he a threat or a second chance?

The story switches between the present and Jillian’s past and it’s these flashbacks that I found to be absolutely captivating. We meet Luke, the great love of Jillian’s life, and we come to learn more about Jillian’s history, as well as the mysteries surrounding her disturbing psychological tendencies. It’s slowly but expertly paced and extremely gratifying.

My heart ached for Jillian and her desperate attempts to find redemption and happiness. Although there is no love triangle, I couldn’t help comparing AJ and Luke and wondering which man is better for her.

I’m going to crown Jewel E. Ann the “Mary Poppins of Contemporary Romance” because I’m pretty sure she subscribes to the philosophy that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. I’ve discovered that she has a knack for mixing humor and heartbreak and guess what? I like it! She sucker punched me with her style in one of my favorites, [b:Undeniably You|21525819|Undeniably You|Jewel E. Ann|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1404968921l/21525819._SX50_.jpg|40851705], but now I’ve come to expect it. The snarky banter takes the edge off the suffering in this tragically beautiful story.

Many questions remain and we still have no idea what brought the Knights to Nebraska but I’m excited to find out. End of Day is the first book in the Jack & Jill trilogy. An optional cliffhanger is included so if you’re not a fan of cliffies don’t read it and you’ll be good. Otherwise, read at your own risk and be miserable until the release of the next book in November 2015.

Okay, now that I've had my much needed chocolate after the ending Ms. Jewel E. Ann left us with, I feel much better and able to write about End of Day. As soon as I saw that End of Day was written by Jewel E. Ann, I immediately wanted to read it because I absolutely loved her Only Trick - it's one of the best books I've read this year - so I knew this one would be good and I was so excited that I really only skimmed the synopsis. And that turned out to be a mistake, but only because it left me confused at the beginning, but as soon as I read the whole synopsis carefully, it made sense. Despite that little road bump, this book was spectacular and I wholeheartedly loved, loved, LOVED it!!

I positively loved Jillian, she's so sassy, snarky, and sarcastic! She's a mischievous troublemaker, strong, but vulnerable, and she makes me laugh as much as she breaks my heart. Jillian doesn't much care about doing what's proper, she does what she wants, and that includes driving Sergeant AJ Monaghan crazy with all of her antics. I loved all of that about her, but I especially loved seeing her gentle, caring, soft side. Jillian's kind of crazy, but I loved that about her - she's an amazing heroine!

Senior Master Sergeant AJ Monaghan is one hooooot man! Sure, he's a little older and he's all grumpy and surly, but that just made me love him more! He does grumpy and stuffy so well and all of that just makes it so much hotter and better when he loses the fight against Jillian. AJ is rough and commanding, he's a jerk and a pain in the butt sometimes, but he has his gentle, sweet moments too. What can I say? I love that old, grumpy hero and I couldn't have stopped it from happening if I tried!

End of Day is so full of life, passion, mystery, and heartache. There are bittersweet moments, deep ones, times where I laughed my butt off, and moments that stopped my heart and took my breath. It pulled me in completely, made me cry, smile, and sigh, and it broke my heart and touched it. It was another phenomenal book from Jewel E. Ann and I CAN'T wait to read Middle of Knight!

End of Day is told from multiple points of view, there's no HEA yet, and it is a HUGE-YOU-WILL-NEED-CHOCOLATE-AFTER-THIS cliffhanger!!!!
