The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because the ending such left me Galin and Emma withdrawals. I wanted more of them.
And that's a wrap on another trilogy! I have to say, this is my least favorite of the three novels because I honestly think it wasn't necessary. I found the plot interesting, dealing with Galen's grief and fears, how it affected his relationship with Emma and all the stuff circling the town of Neptune and the Half-Breeds. But I just couldn't care about the new characters introduced, especially Reed, therefore I couldn't bring myself to be invested in the town as a whole. There's a side plot that, while surprising, it's poorly developed and relies on a cartoon-type character, and it's totally unnecessary. It could've been cut out of the novel without any damage to the actual plot.
“Emma, I will love you with every breath in my body and beyond my own death. I swear to be your shield, your protector, your worshipper. There is nothing I will deny you. I am yours."
But the ending is sweet and overall, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this trilogy and the characters. Both Emma and Galen have great character development through the series and are both more mature and level-headed than I expected for paranormal YA MCs. They actually talk about their feelings and issues, not only between them, but with their familya and friends as well. I'm really satisfyied with the ending and am happy I pushed myself to read the second installment this year.
I love the story, I fell in love with the characters, but the ending got me wanting more, seemed a bit rushed. I hope someday Anna decides to give us a look into their future.
After reading Of Triton I thought it was unnecessary a third book... and after reading Of Neptune, I think effectively, it was unnecessary.
Don't get me wrong, I liked reading more about our favorite characters, but this book felt more like a fanfic written to give Emma a buch of new friends/family. And there isn't even that much about the characters we know in the other two books. Like Rayna and Toraf, or Nalia and Grom. And even Emma and Galen are together in only 7 chapters or so. And in a book of 48 chapters, that's huge.
I'd have enjoyed much more reading about the underwater kingdoms and their acceptance to Emma. But no, we have a book full of some new characters and their lives in a town of half-breeds and Syrena: Emma goes to the town, and Galen gets beaten.

I think that if there had to be a third book, this is the way it should be done. The slight deviance of the Reed - Emma storyline was a bit of a long tangent, but otherwise, I thought it tied up the unsettled feeling Emma has being a half-breed locked between the love of two worlds. Although my love for the first two was a little let down by this third novel.
I think this should have been a duology not a trilogy. While I did enjoy some parts of Of Neptune for the most part it was a completely tangent to the first two books.
