I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews,, especially about the anime which I haven’t seen, but personally I really enjoyed this! Like yeah it is pretty basic shonen, but I found it super enjoyable! My favorite so far is Yuno,, because y’know I have a type.

Another one I'm reading for work, but this one sucked me in immediately. In a world where everyone has at least SOME magical ability, Asta is born without any. But that doesn't stop him from dreaming of becoming the wizard king! Volume one follows his and Yuno's journey to the magic knights exam and Asta's discovery of a special magical item that gives him a leg up. I'm fully invested and even watched a few episodes of the anime! The story is good and there are quite a few funny moments too!

(Contains light spoilers.)

I was intrigued by this series, and the setup reminds me of Shaman King, which I enjoyed.

Asta wants to be the Wizard King, he’s more determined than anyone else, only he has absolutely no magic. His best friend and rival, Yuno, on the other hand, is more gifted in magic than anyone else they know. They both try out for the magic knights, and set off on their journey toward becoming the wizard king.

Asta is a bit annoying. He’s extremely determined and loud, never giving up even when he’s clearly losing. He’s in love with a nun, for instance, and wants her to marry him, even when she repeatedly declines. Yuno, though, is quiet and studious, but just as determined in his silent way. Yuno is a shark, where Asta is a loud kid. We meet the gang that Asta becomes a part of, a unique mix of misfits. I’m hoping we get to see what Yuno is doing with his own group as well.

This was an interesting volume, though Asta is a bit annoying at times. It was well-done, though, and the artwork is nice. I’m particularly interested in the idea behind it, and what exactly is going to happen with Asta’s powers.

A review copy was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, for an honest review. Thank you so, so much!

I think I'm going to enjoy this series! So far liking it. I like the quirky characters and the fantasy background. It does seem similar to a LOT of other manga though...
