This book was definitely a practical “how to” for songwriting but more than that it was tough love therapy to reframe limiting beliefs around creativity. I think any beginner (or insecure) artist of any discipline would benefit from reading through this book (even if you don’t plan on writing your one song).
Why 4 stars? Tweedy’s writing is a bit repetitive in some places and a little annoyingly meta (writing about writing and his other books). Not a big deal just knocked it down one star.

I mean, look, if you want to write one song - this book is good for that! I appreciate that he gives you different exercises to try, which seem fun and doable. I was reading this more as a window to creativity, and it's not REALLY that - it's more what it says it is, about that one song!
