I did not see that coming! Wow - this one was interesting. Several people are lured to a remote island in Mexico, all with different reasons to be there. Miriam is there, thinking that she is going to be on a reality TV show. Miriam is struggling with her relationship with her daughter due to something that happened to one of her daughter's friends.
Once on the island, communication is cut off to the outside world. The people find out that they were lured to the island under false pretenses. What then unfolds provides lots of red herrings and unique twists. The ending is pretty surprising when you find out who did it and why.
Interesting!

4 stars for sheer cleverness! 3 stars (or maybe 4) for creating deplorable characters who somehow won you over. And four stars for a distinct voice in the thriller genre and changing the terms of and diversifying the well worn locked room thriller trope!

this was a big disappointment smh i pushed through to the end and i wish i had not . the book was just a mess started off interesting then just fell so flat no suspense just a wanting to be done reading.

god i really need to stop reading the "x amount of people in isolation and they're all bad and they all start dying" story line because it's so bad every. single. time.
i hated the story, every character was just bad, like the author didn't even try to make them redeemable. also this bunch of characters were introduced rapid fire so it was super hard to keep track of everyone so i didn't even know who tf was dying at first 😭.
also all the valium popping and drinking and just falling asleep? so overused
and finally the audiobook narrators voice was not fitting. it felt very self righteous which is fine just not in this book

I finished this, but I skipped at least 30% of it. By the halfway point I was skimming some passages, and for the second half of the book I was only skimming the dialog and action scenes and skipping everything else. The concept was great - 7 people on an island and they start dying, who is the murderer? But the narrator’s constant anxiety spiraling/persecution complex really wore on me and wasn’t entertaining.
