Something wonderfully different!
This well read audio version was perfect for a road trip.
Interesting and unusual characters, including the landscapes all inspired by mediaeval Japanese folklore. a classic tale with something for everyone.

Bardzo, bardzo porządny kawał świetnej fanatastyki. Pomijając fakt, że zajęło mi pół roku nim wróciłam do książki, muszę przyznać że nawet większość fabuły pamiętałam, i jedyny problem miałam z przypomnieniem sobie kto z kim pozostawał w jakiej relacji.

“I am what I am and what I have always been, a poor soul on a journey.”

Well, this one wasn't really my cup of tea. As a fan of Japanes culture and anime, I was extremely excited to read a book about Japanes culture etc.
However, at the beginning I was sooooooooooooo confused. Too many names, too many places, just everything too much. I needed a lot of time to understand and to get into the story.

After this, I started to enjoy the story, but I was confused till the end, trying to get my mind to remember all of the characters and their connections.

Nevertheless, I loved the Japanes theme. The names, the places, the myths - they were worth reading this book.

I have to read her other series, which was praised a lot some years ago. And yes, I'll read the second book coming out next year, because I need to know what Shikanoko is about to do!

The actual story being told was very interesting. Unfortunately I could never tell from what point of view it was being told from. I also could not tell who the main character throughout the story, but I assume it was meant to be deer boy. And then at the end of the book he just sleeps with the girl because a mask told him to. It was hard to read as well with how poorly it was written. Would not recommend for anyone to read. 3.5/10

Always a fan of Lian Hearn's work. This prequel series to the Tales of the Otori was a delightful read. I am now rereading Across the Nightingale Floor and loving the way it all fits together.
