My 5 year old absolutely adored this book, and my 12 year old eavesdropped most of the story. Cedric the Griffin is now lodged in our family memory. By the way, this was a prime book box selection - we’ve received two boxes over four months and the selections have been new to us and spot on for the age group. Highly recommend this book and we will search out more by this author.

An enjoyable read without all the moralistic stuff being shoved down your throat.

I enjoyed this book. It was creative and different than normal books. I say its not as good as I thought it would be. The cover! Great for kids imaginations!

I really enjoyed reading this with N - it had a great story, likeable characters, and was interesting for adults as well as kids. But she didn't love it as much as I expected, so we probably won't read the sequel.

Cute and short fairy tale fantasy. Fans of this genre, especially young readers, will eat it up.

Ivy is a little girl, living with her grandmother on the outskirts of the very tidy town of Broomsweep. Ivy's grandmother is a healer for animals, both pets and wild, and Ivy is her helper. Their cottage doesn't fit the tidy image of Broomsweep, which is a big problem since the newly crowned Queen Emmeline will be visiting and choosing the best town in the kingdom. Everything in Broomsweep must be perfect, so the mayor and his wife tell Ivy and her grandmother that they must clean up their garden and cottage. Unfortunately for the mayor's wife's plans, magical creatures start showing up at Ivy's grandmother's, having been kicked out of other towns in preparation for the contest. However, having magical creatures around just might save the day, and win Queen Emmeline's contest!
This book is absolutely precious. The cover art and interspersed black-and-white illustrations create a whimsical, cheerful mood. This would be such a fun book to keep in the classroom library for grades 3-5. Students who enjoy fantasy or animal stories would love this book!

A sweet fantasy early chapter book. Animal lovers will enjoy it. A quick and easy read, just right for those starting lengthier chapter books.
