I really enjoyed the idea behind the quicksilver and the different realms. I do wish there was a little bit more world-building. I loved the basis of the side characters and would have loved more storyline with them. Some parts of the story felt a little scattered, and I loathed the banter. I felt like I was reading 14-year-old boys talking šŸ’© to each other. Banter and enemies-to-lovers is absolutely my favorite trope, but I desire more wit and less use of the word f*ck. You would think a Fae that has been alive for centuries would have developed better ways to express his moods.
I felt very similar about the banter when I read Fourth Wing and Violet’s over use of ā€œf*ck you’sā€. Iron Flame was a huge improvement, so I am excited to read the second book of Quicksilver.

I'd like to say I'm one of those sophisticated readers that DNF'd this book for the messy plot, but I fucking loved this. šŸ¤©šŸ˜‚šŸ™ˆ

Were there several cringey writing and eyeroll inducing moments? Yes.
Did I have an absolute blast reading it anyway? Also yes.

It's a fun easy to read romantasy for in-between denser books.

It felt like all of my favorite fantasy stories rolled into one. It did take about until about 40% of the way through the book for the writing to find its flow and lose that immature voice but once it hooked me, I was all in!  I loved all the magic, the angsty tension, the witty banter between the cast, the secrets...  Kingfisher is the ultimate shadow daddy; a broody leader with a secretly big heart (and the filthiest mouth 🄵).  I loved the found family vibes, the comic relief characters, the swoon worthy romantic gestures... so many secrets and mysteries.  It's mostly romance focused and then the plot kicks in during the second half.  This ended with an avalanche of reveals and I'm DYING for book two.  It was such a fun unserious read.

I like the concept

First 80% of the book is kind of slow and not much happens. This took longer to read than it usually would. The last 20%, however I really enjoyed. The banter in this book was so good. Spice was decent. I liked this book, but I don’t understand the huge hype over it.

Unsure if I would recommend this to a friend. I guess it just depends on the person. Should you give this book a shot? I’d give it a maybe to yes. I’ll probably read the next book, too.

Wow. BookTok did not disappoint with this one. There is something different about Fisher than other MMCs in romantasy books I’ve read recently. He is the perfect mix of broody while also giving gentleman. It is a medium-paced slow burn type of romance, which I enjoy. This book allows time for the main characters to develop feelings instead of just ripping each other’s clothes off in chapter four, which I appreciate. The banter between Fisher and Saeris is impeccable. While this book does lean heavily on romance, it does not at all stop there. The plot is fully developed and the world in which this author has built truly stands out from the rest. The idea of quicksilver in this book is unique and well-thought out. While the whole book itself kept me quite entertained, the last 200 pages of this book completely sucked me into its world! I could not put this book down at that point for the life of me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I have no complaints whatsoever, only praise! You should read this book, you deserve it. šŸ–¤

I loved the character development overall. I particularly enjoyed the character arc of the MCs. However, parts felt rushed and not explained, as well as they could have been imo, particularly for the side characters. This could simply be because it is part of a series, but I feel like the world/character building would would have benefitted by having a little more focus.

I think the plot was great along with the plot twists, and I am keen to read book 2 when it is published.

The banter between the characters had me laughing in places, and the spice was nice.

What a disappointment this was…but let’s start with what I actually liked: I liked the Human City Zilvaren - where the story begins - and the setting and world ideas there. (Unfortunately, we do not spend a lot of time there.) I also really liked the FMC! She had a great sense of humor and was tough but kind. Additionally, I liked the whole Alchemy-thing. It was def something I have not read before.

Sadly, once we enter the realm of the Fae, pretty much everything from there on is the typical stuff you read in almost every book now;  fancy and in great detail described dresses that the FMC has to wear, the typical nice girl that the FMC becomes friends with, and the broody male (MMC), who  is a completely asshole. And then it just goes on with all the usual drama. Everything in this plot except for the ending was totally foreseeable and boring. The world-Building was also completely off. Throwing vampires and fae into one world is one thing, but then making up vampire-zombies?? Now that’s a completely new level of the-author-had-no-original-ideas.

And coming to the ending now…what an absolute disaster! Everything was completely thrown together and there were so many plot holes and things that didn’t make any sense. It was so disappointing. It felt like the author just desperately wanted to throw everything in there that she possibly could! Gods, fae, vampires, zombie-vampires and humans…Ugh! Why?
>spoiler<

Also the whole dialogue with the godā€˜s daughters and the god himself  was soo weird! Like, why did they ask here what sex is like? Wtf? And then, they were the suns?? Where did that come from? So random and weird.

If you like a tropey, spicy, romantasy read, this is for you!

The writing was decently engaging. It was an easy book to read. Maybe things were familiar because the fae plot has just been over done, at this point. But if you don’t mind it, the FMC’s magic is pretty unique for a fae based book. I still enjoyed it. Did I think of ACOTAR, FBAA and a little Serpent and the wings of night? Yup. Did I care? Not really. There was enough differences that I just let it breathe. I’m sure things will find their own way in the next book.

The characters are your basic human/fae pairing. He’s old, she’s fragile. Bla bla bla. There is insta-attraction, insta-friendships. I wish the friendship had been more organic… instead it felt like she was just added into a found family that we don’t have much context about.  But there was a lot of plot going on, so hopefully that will be fixed in the next book.

I think I preferred the first setting to the second or third. I want more of the wheel spoke city. I’m assuming with the loose ties there, we will go back. But we are pretty far from it right now.

There were some inconsistencies… like her mom works at a library underground with books, which are hard to find in her section… but then she is a prostitute? I’m not sure how those two ends meet. And that’s a small one.

I liked the ending. I’m invested! It was a very bingeable read.
