okay, yes i’m giving this 5 stars because i fuckin loved it. were there issues with the writing? absolutely. did i have a hell of a time, though? fuck yeah i did. i mean, kingfisher could get it.
there were definitely some logistical issues with the writing. why the hell did saeris spend such a lengthy amount of time mixing random shit with silver instead of idk using her magic??!! how the hell did kingfisher use his magic in the vampire kingdom when they supposedly don’t have access to magic there? AND THEN THE MENTION OF CLIFFNOTES?!?!
other than that, i had a damn good time and have no regrets rating this 5 stars just because my enjoyment level was that high. if you read this book, just don’t take it to seriously and you’ll like it lol

I really enjoyed the banter between the two main characters. Sassy and witty! I live for banter and taking shots at each other.  Kingfisher was more of a feral MMC than I am used to reading but I was here for it.

Character building was great, even for side c haracters. I really appreciated that; i especially enjoyed the twist that was revealed for a side character.

I loved the idea of quicksilver in general and the whole world building around it. Really hoping for more information about it in the following book along with information about Alchemy in general.

There were some slow moments in the middle of the book, but by then I was hooked. I liked the book well enough to want to pick up the audiobook and give that a try.

I’m happy that so many people have enjoyed this, but it wasn’t for me.

Things I enjoyed: Onyx and Simon (chuckle).

The hype didn’t help, but my disappointment wasn’t just because of it.

The main problem with this book was that the love interest was abusive. Even though there kind of was a reason for it, it’s no excuse. Don’t call anyone a “bitch in heat”, don’t refer to a loved one as being “spayed”.

For me the writing was too colloquial, felt better suited for an audiobook. Strange phrases, like “my mouth was sweating”, apparently referring to feeling sick? Also, other words than “fuck” do exist.

The bad guys were just that, bad. Felt one-dimensional.

Things were happening too fast. There wasn’t much romance, mainly lust. (Nothing wrong with that, but even that felt too abrupt.)

.... My first real toe into romantasy and holy shit.

This is like the Fallout New Vegas of novels.

Definitely an adult fantasy but I wouldn't rate it super high on spice because it only happens a couple times but the yearning and thirsting is S tier.

I loved the cast of characters so much it honestly felt like any one of them could have been/is actually the main character if you just pivot a little.

Mind-blowing!!!! Nothing else I can say really. What a brilliant start to a romantasy series. Goodness it was excellent.

The story was very well written and very descriptive. It had lots of elements that I love; Fae, Vampires, magic, alchemy. The book came together so well. I'd say the pace was medium. It flowed very and there were certainly no plots holes. It didn't leave you with more questions when I ended. The first book was rounded off and ended nicely.

The characters. What can I say about them? I adore them all. Let's start Saeris. I thought she was a bit of a petulant child at first but that eventually changed. Kingfisher. Hello book boyfriend number 3 of 2025! He was just so dreamy and broody. Morally grey as well to a point still a good male. Carrion was too funny. I loved him. All the others were great. Wee Onyx was a cute little guy. He's a book furbaby for me!

The book was written from Saeris's POV and in first person. Part of me would had have liked a bit of dual POV but it wasn't a deal breaker. It would have been nice to get into the murky and painful depths of Kingfisher's head. It doesn't matter, it didn't take away from my enjoyment.

I really cannot recommend this one enough guys. It's great for a first time romantasy reader. Even for the more seasoned romantasy reader it's a great book!

Recommended by Jamie B Golden as a green light on the Popcast.  I loved this Romantasy! The characters are all well written with so much depth and the world building is fantastic!  Love the twist on vampires and Fae!  But I think the Quicksilver itself might have been my favorite character!
