Sorta mid. Heavy emphassis of "shadow daddy", take that as you will, not my favorite thing.

There’s sudden modern language and phrases in a world without widespread indoor plumbing or the advent of vaccination, but okay?? I think?? I found it distracting, because… why??

I'm not sure how I was lucky enough to get the audiobook copy of this on Libby at my library given its popularity. I went into this with no background and I had such an enjoyable time. It wasn't necessarily read that had me on the edge of my seat, but I was engrossed the entire time. Hart's writing was witty and entertaining. All of the characters felt well-rounded and cohesive within the larger arc of the story.

I will say that in terms of the plot, it did feel a bit slow and then fast and then slow again throughout. I understand that Saeris is supposed to learn throughout the book, but there were truly points where I thought to myself "Oh this part is still happening". It did have an entertaining conclusion, but there was a bit too much foreshadowing for the results to be surprising.

I did love the interactions between Saeris and Kingfisher. The progression of their relationship and their banter kept me entertained throughout the book and I was invested in the outcome. I think that Hart did an excellent job building the tension between them. I did think that the attempt at an alternate love interest throughout the story felt a little forced, particularly given that interest was already excluded by Saeris before even meeting Kingfisher. Thus, the tension between them on that front didn't feel as authentic as the tension created by their deal.

Overall this was a fun read and I'm looking forward to reading the series.

Quicksilver wasn’t really on my radar, but I’m glad it got there.

Saeris is the best thief in the district. When she happens to steal gold from a Queen’s guard, she knows her life is about to change—just not quite how expects it to.

Yall know I love a good fantasy and Quicksilver definitely delivers. The world building started off a bit heavy, but it sets up the story for sooo much. The balance between plot and romance was done well; I actually found myself wanting to read slower so it wouldn’t end so soon. I appreciated that Saeris wasn’t completely worthless and Kingfisher, the MMC, wasn’t just a hot piece of meat (lol). Guess I have a thing for developed characters. 🤣

Anyway, the vibes were there. The storyline was there. Comedic relief, logically progressive plot, intriguing side characters? Yep, yep, yep. I’m here for it and I’m here for the next one. I’m eager to see how that ending will work out.

Unique magic system. Has a little bit of everything and was hooked from the start. The tandem read for the audiobook was wonderful and glad I listened instead of physical reading.

Great depth of characters. There was so much in one book, but everything was easy to follow and stayed interesting. Beautiful chemistry between characters and a great premise altogether.
