Solid romantasy read. Compelling main characters. World building was good. Curious to see how the story continues.

Thought the enemy was a bit forced/rushed and the book overall was a bit overhyped from everyone on BookTok but am glad I read.

This was a fun read! The second half was definitely better than the first, but I enjoyed the whole thing nonetheless. It’s not a particularly complicated story, but I loved the romance in this and it was fairly well balanced with the plot. Will definitely be reading the second one when it’s out!

I have very complicated feelings about this book. I strongly disliked the first 65% of it to the point where I just continued listening because I had spent money and I was gonna try my best to get my moneys worth.
The plot got a lot better on the last 35% which is why the book went up in my rating from 1 ⭐️ to 2.50 ⭐️

So, why did i struggle so much with this book?
Well, nothing really happens for the better part of it. But the time isn’t used to build the world (which does sound i retesting and I am actually sad to not know more about it), but rather for the fmc to drool over the mmc for the same 4 attributes over and over again and curse for NO REASON! And their hatred for each other in the first 2/3 of the book feels almost as forced as
the then rushed romance to mated trope.

The spice was out of nowhere and then way too explicit. I am not a fan of space in general and this took it way too far.
One other thing that bothered me a lot is that the most interesting plotlines (which were developed in the last third of the book) felt borrowed from a few other books which were great hits.
 (Mainly but not only ACOTAR)

BUT when the book picked up pace and I decided to ignore the borrowed aspects of things and skip the Pickering and unnecessary spice, it began to be quite an interesting story. Plus a few ideas (like the role of Quicksilver and alchemy) was cool.

I don’t think I will continue this series though. Unless someone gifts me the book I am not willing to spend more money to then feel obligated to continue something that was hyped for no reason i can understand…

This was a mid book for me with the last 2 chapters really putting in overtime for book 2's setup.

Some of the characters are charming and the twist was mostly well executed as there wasn't a lot of hints, but enough information to make it believable. The overall plot felt typical very 2000's YA with an extra-special girl entering a magical world with some enemies-to-lovers thrown in. Not bad, but it also didn't feel like anything special to me either.

I'm going to be honest, this book was kind of a let down for me. I went into this book knowing absolutely nothing. At all. I didn't know what to expect, but when this book has as much praise as it has I was really expecting... Something else.

I read this on Kindle and didn't read a synopsis so shame on me but anyways here are my issues

1. Not a fan of choking. Any TW from any of the book groups I am in would have been appreciated. The choking was really uncomfortable for me to read.

2. I really really am not a fan of vampires.  Occasionally you come across a fresh take on vampires with interesting lore.... This one was a solid miss from me dog. When I found out the fae/vampire history in the world I was honestly upset by it. I rolled my eyes internally

3. I liked Kingfisher right up until they f***ed. Then it's like he has a complete personality change. Was the p***y so good you had a complete personality change?

4. I didn't give 2 sh*ts about Everlayne. She felt useless. So I didn't care about her enthrallment and I cared even less about saving her

For some positives:

I loved Saeris! I loved the Quicksilver itself. The chapter where she makes the sword and it dead ass takes the song from existence was easily one of the greatest chapters I have ever read in a book. Perfection!

Otherwise I'm very underwhelmed by this book.
