Wow. BookTok did not disappoint with this one. There is something different about Fisher than other MMCs in romantasy books I’ve read recently. He is the perfect mix of broody while also giving gentleman. It is a medium-paced slow burn type of romance, which I enjoy. This book allows time for the main characters to develop feelings instead of just ripping each other’s clothes off in chapter four, which I appreciate. The banter between Fisher and Saeris is impeccable. While this book does lean heavily on romance, it does not at all stop there. The plot is fully developed and the world in which this author has built truly stands out from the rest. The idea of quicksilver in this book is unique and well-thought out. While the whole book itself kept me quite entertained, the last 200 pages of this book completely sucked me into its world! I could not put this book down at that point for the life of me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I have no complaints whatsoever, only praise! You should read this book, you deserve it. 🖤

Spice rating: 3.5/5 🌶️  (REAL STEAMY!!!!)

I loved the character development overall. I particularly enjoyed the character arc of the MCs. However, parts felt rushed and not explained, as well as they could have been imo, particularly for the side characters. This could simply be because it is part of a series, but I feel like the world/character building would would have benefitted by having a little more focus.

I think the plot was great along with the plot twists, and I am keen to read book 2 when it is published.

The banter between the characters had me laughing in places, and the spice was nice.

If you like a tropey, spicy, romantasy read, this is for you!

The writing was decently engaging. It was an easy book to read. Maybe things were familiar because the fae plot has just been over done, at this point. But if you don’t mind it, the FMC’s magic is pretty unique for a fae based book. I still enjoyed it. Did I think of ACOTAR, FBAA and a little Serpent and the wings of night? Yup. Did I care? Not really. There was enough differences that I just let it breathe. I’m sure things will find their own way in the next book.

The characters are your basic human/fae pairing. He’s old, she’s fragile. Bla bla bla. There is insta-attraction, insta-friendships. I wish the friendship had been more organic… instead it felt like she was just added into a found family that we don’t have much context about.  But there was a lot of plot going on, so hopefully that will be fixed in the next book.

I think I preferred the first setting to the second or third. I want more of the wheel spoke city. I’m assuming with the loose ties there, we will go back. But we are pretty far from it right now.

There were some inconsistencies… like her mom works at a library underground with books, which are hard to find in her section… but then she is a prostitute? I’m not sure how those two ends meet. And that’s a small one.

I liked the ending. I’m invested! It was a very bingeable read.

Most of the worldbuilding wasn't terribly unique, but it was interesting and easy to get into. I hope we get to dive more into the Silver City and its oppressive class system in a future book. That was the most unique and intriguing part in my opinion.

The writing was good overall. I enjoyed the characters and there was decent banter. The enemies-to-lovers trope wasn't entirely convincing because the chemistry developed quickly and Saeris came off a little too immature in her attempts to fight it, but Kingfisher made up for a lot.
