The book was enjoyable but the balance of certain aspects was off. The character growth and romance were too underdeveloped to be focal points in the story. The excerpts from interviews could have been better connected to the mystery.

Slow to start and not my favorite of hers but still enjoyable
I really loved Georgie All Along, and I was hoping this would give me a similar energy. I thought it would be funny – it was not. I thought it would have characters that didn't rely only on each other to be whole and solved – it decidedly did not. The sister-caretaker relationship didn't feel like it balanced the tension/obligation/resentment/and deep love of caretaking with the tension/friendship of sisterhood. The Salem character was pretty 1-dimensional, despite clear efforts to round her out. The Adam-Jess chemistry just felt automatic and false – it seems like they just came together because... they were both... just there. Jess has soooo much work to do for herself, and I appreciate the little therapy montage at the end, but (from personal experience) I can say that's not how therapy typically works. The mom was also just kind of a flat villain which (again from personal experience) I can say is not realistic. Bummer to have such an interesting premise fall so flat.
