Omg I hated this book. First of all it makes no sense the whole time. They characters are basically just saying random things with no meaning or context so you’re just confused the whole time. Very random book. And like wtf is that ending??? Hate the writing style, hate the ending, hate everything.

I really liked the start and the slow build, but there just was no crescendo and it only left me with all these unanswered questions.

jesus fucking christ i don’t remember the last time a book made me cry real big tears like this. the feelings it evoked, the imagery of the sea, the love. the LOVE. the grief and the parallels between Miri’s mother and Leah’s condition. Wow. Just wow.

Maybe this book just isn't for me. The pace was insanely slow, to a point where I could count the events within it on one hand, and the prose was dense in a way that dragged the book down rather than serving as a foundation. The book leaves you uncertain of what's happening in a way that feels outright confusing as opposed to mysterious or profound. Leah and Miri also struggle to feel like their own characters - they speak and act in such similar voices that you get the feeling we're seeing two sides of a very flat coin.
