The author was upfront about this being more spice than plot, and I RESPECT IT.

Alex and Elijah were impressively well-developed characters. They were honest communicators who wanted the same things out of a relationship. They shared an instant attraction to each other, but were still able to form a substantial emotional connection during their short stay at the lakehouse. I must admit that I’m quite impressed by the lack of insta-love vibes, especially in a story that moves so quickly. It felt like these characters genuinely had a fun time together, which meant that I easily did too, as a reader.

I love how realistic both characters are about the taboo nature of their relationship, and how seriously they take each other’s concerns. They’re both upfront about how much they can handle at the moment until they’re ready to give in and face Alex’s father together.

Random side note: I got the ick when Elijah mentioned wanting to have kids and leave a legacy.

Overall, this was pretty hot. I was not familiar with Kayla Grosse’s writing, but color me intrigued! This was such a quick, lighthearted, and fun read.

Audiobook side note: Victoria Connolly and Grayson Owens were great narrators, although I wasn’t a fan of Victoria’s male voices.
