I’m usually pretty good at just taking in a book for what it gives me: I follow the plot, I avoid worrying about what I think *should* happen, and I enjoy the journey. But this one did have me making some guesses, and I was only wrong about the culprit twice! (I really don’t make a big effort on guessing endings, lol). I’m giving four stars because of the editing flaws. I loved the story, the characters, and the pace, but sometimes the mistakes took me out of the experience because I wasn’t sure about the exact meaning of a sentence or phrase.

This book sucked and I’m mad. I was so excited about this one but it was almost nothing like the back cover toted. I was really hoping for something similar in vibes to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and instead I got a super boring book with not a lot that actually happens? Half of the book could have been taken out. I am reading this book for murder, suspense, drama—but instead, half the book is just about the main character and her trauma from her parents divorce. Like, I could have done without literally any of that. There are pages-long internal monologues about one childhood trauma or another that don’t actually fuel the story along at all. While I do love to see LGBTQ rep in a YA book, I feel like this book was trying way too hard to be too many things and didn’t nail any of them.
