I couldn't put this down. I continue to be impressed with Eggers' range and ambition, and while sometimes I'm not sure it's 100% successful, here I was compelled.

Actual rating: 4.5 stars. I really liked this book. It's all written in a dialogue and it's a quick and easy read. At first I didn't know where this book was going when I started reading it but I really liked the plot where it was going to. The only disappointing thing is that I'm not entirely sure how it ended.

Told strictly in dialogue, "Your Fathers, Where are They..." is a stunning exploration of the power of conversation. It's not easy to tell a whole story within the parameters of speech, but Eggers paints a gruesome history for his main character, "head screwed too tight" Thomas. After kidnapping and chaining up an astronaut, Thomas' decision making slowly unravels, forcing him to make rash choices and discover hidden secrets of his past. While suspension of disbelief is a must with this book, there are a few female characters which fall flat, unbelievable and bordering on manic pixie dream girl. Despite this minor hiccup, "Your Fathers, Where are They..." is painful and profound and wonderfully nuanced. It forces us to confront the grey areas in our culture and our lives, and refuses to give us a final judgment on the brokenness. It's a wonderful book, I highly recommend it. Check out the audio version (around 6 hours), performed by a full cast of actors.

That title...I'm not sure what the point of that title is, lol. The book was interesting and thought provoking. I felt for Thomas, but also he was completely crazy.

This is a totally fantastic book. A very quick read but absolutely worth it. Eggers continues to mature into the hero we need & deserve.
