I enjoyed this. I don’t think it was much of a comedy, but the characters were heartfelt and their issues felt real. The dialogue, while not witty like I usually enjoy, felt authentic. There were plot twists and turns that helped keep it moving, which did help. Overall, I enjoyed the read.
Great premise, shitty POV. DNF!
So, MC was giving pedo vibes & ableist aka flippant towards mental health. No.
She, 30yo, hooks up with a 23yo & continuously refers to him as a kid & teenage. Before AND after they hook up. Like, "I'm the adult in this situation" & "what does he know, he's just an older teenager". "He looks like a child".
Also, she wished to have a panic attack in a stressful situation. Mind you, she never had one & her only context was seeing actors do it in film. She literally has a whole thought process about it, like, "maybe I can make myself have a panic attack. Bet it's like puking after drinking, very tension relieving". Yo, just no.
Why include these things in the book? Am I supposed to hate her, bc I do. Does she get murdered, bc that'd be a cool ending.

Beth O'Leary is an auto-buy author for me, but it seems that her latest publications were just ok. I definitely enjoyed more her earlier works.
So this was another ok read, mostly because of Lexi, a character that squeezed any fun out of the story 🥲 Nothing is good for her, always complaining, she annoyed the heck out of me.
As for Zeke, he tries his best to help with the situation and be there for her. But because I didn't like her, I could not enjoy them being together.
There was a twist, something that disrupted the romantic flow, as it happens with every romance. I didn't catch up on that, but it was also not that inspired. It did annoy me more.
I was expecting a funny lost at sea romance after a one night stand, but Lexi ruined it for me.
