I read the majority of this book in a few days, and then got a puppy, so naturally, it was dropped like a hot potato.
But that was no fault of it's own! I was thoroughly invested until that point.
No notes. The oil rig was cool, thelack of communication trope right at the end was a bit annoying, (which happened to coincide with me dropping the book), but it wasn't for too long.
Enjoooyed.

I'm sad to say I strongly disliked this book by one of my fav authors, who before now, never missed the mark for me! I found this book incredibly difficult to get through.
There is very little feel good or romance in this book. It is overly detailed and complicated, and honestly stress inducing, with characters I found very difficult to root for and plot points which just didn't make sense or seem relevant. I spent 90% of the book stressed and confused and 10% annoyed and confused about how things fit together / resolve (or didnt). This didn't feel like a book of sunlight and inspiration as Beth usually writes, it felt like an unexpected and unwelcome thriller.
The expectation of feel good romance was crushed by the reality of the stress and fear in this book. Perhaps if it was marketed as such, I could've enjoyed it but when waiting for relief and lightness that never comes it is honestly so anxiety inducing and frustrating.

Audiobook Review⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5’s
Thank you to the author @betholearyauthor and @prhaudio for the #gifted audiobook.
Zeke and Lexi are total strangers who wake up after a one-night stand… and accidentally drift out to sea on a houseboat. Yep, you read that right. And what follows is an intense, emotional, and unexpectedly romantic adventure that had me completely hooked!

This was a fun action adventure romance!
I’ve been wanting to try Beth O’Leary since hearing so many wonderful things about her books, especially The Flat Share, so when I saw this title come out, I jumped on it right away.
The steamy scenes were mostly off screen and those that were described were very artistic and not very graphic, so this title should be okay for our more chaste romance crowd.
The situations actually escalate to being quite dire, so I’d say the peril level is at times somewhat high, so I wouldn’t classify this story as cozy. I actually quite liked the high danger levels because it made the increased early intimacy between main characters logical and expected.
The characters are layered and individualized, with flaws and complexity and that makes for a good story, too.
I checked out the ebook copy from Libby and was fortunate to receive and audio copy from Penguin Random House (thank you to them), so I was able to enjoy immersive reading/listening simultaneously, which is my favorite way to consume books! Interestingly, the audio version had several English-isms which were Americanized in the ebook version (ex. When referring to a cup of coffee “neck it” became “gulp it down”). That was fascinating to me but didn’t change the meaning or content in any significant way. The narrators were both very good and the accents really added to the richness of the story!
