Blood is Another Word for Hunger was nominated for an 2020 Hugo Award in the Short Story category.
Sully a young slave girl exacts revenge on her masters, a family of 5. The spirit world sees an opening and seeps in making their way into Sully's life.
This story was beautifully written and just the right amount of spooky. It was dark as one would expect from a short story about someone conducting acts of violence.
" All they knew was how to bleed something for all it was worth. What must it be like to live life when every interaction included the question, How much value can I extract from this?"

River Solomon is a master in emotion. Everything they write leaves me ravenous for more.
This short story is packed full. More than the words themselves.

Right in the FEELS
The only issue I have with this short story is that I would have read an entire novella about Sully.

OOF. I loved this one as well. I somehow wish it was longer while simultaneously knowing it was exactly what it was meant to be.
