Brilliant book. Started out a bit basic, girl-meets-boy-they-fall-in-love way, but the journal entries added a great backstory, and the plot was not conventional in showing the realities of the relationship.

I definitely did not love this book. It was ok but <I didn’t love that Lily got pregnant. That’s just not my thing>. This was the first book I read by Colleen Hoover. <I also feel like the end was very rushed. Specifically the epilogue. We hadn’t seen Atlas in a long time and then next thing we know Atlas and Lily are kissing.>

This whole thing could be considered a spoiler.

A book that shows a story of domestic violence that really isn’t discussed. You can really understand how things begin and warning signs while also seeing the future of that relationship in Lily’s parents. The authors note made me tear up.

I wish Lily would’ve considered getting an abortion. She mentioned wanting kids in the future but never made it seem like being a mother was her life’s goal or anything she wanted in the semi-near future. She’s young, not religious, and pregnant with a man who has physically harmed her. I just wish abortion was an option. But I suppose without the baby as a plot device her decision about her marriage would’ve been different.

I tend to gravitate towards more lighthearted books, but some exceptions are made sometimes and this was one of them. This book changed my perspective about things, which is a powerful feature for a book. The characters are so well constructed and the plot so unpredictable, at least for me. You can feel that the author poured her heart into this book while you're reading it. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for  an emotional, thought-provoking and realistic read, but please please please consult the content warnings before reading it.

This is absolutely amazing. It Ends With Us made me so emotional to the point that I was sobbing by the end of the book. I really loved the scene where
Lily tells Ryle that she wants a divorce and Ryle was telling her to reconsider, and then she asked him what he would've done if their daughter came up to them and said her boyfriend/husband had hit her.
It was beautifully written.

Also, the Epilogue was amazing. The last line was absolutely perfect.

Honestly, Colleen Hoover did such an amazing job because whenever
Ryle got mad and hit her, I'd make excuses for him in my mind like "you shouldn't've done that in the first place"
and I'd catch myself the next second realising how wrong and toxic that mindset is. Colleen really wrote the book in a way that made it seem like you're actually in Lily's place/situation so you get these mindsets that a lot of women have when they're in that situation also (eg, making excuses).

This is a 100% recommend from me! 👍🏻
