I have not read any other Colleen Hoover books and wasn’t sure what to expect with this because I also don’t read romance and thought it was going to be some sort of potential “50 Shades of Grey” sort of thing. I was pleasantly surprised at being wrong.

I had alarm bells going off immediately with the abusive character, but I love the depth the author eventually added to *all* of the characters, including the abusive one. When you find out the reasons why he is the way he is, it’s hard to not feel some level of sympathy for him, regardless of the fact that he’s just words on paper. Imagine him as a real human that charms you and makes you feel loved, and the story makes even more sense.

I personally would not recommend this one to anyone who is *currently* struggling with *any* mental illness issues, regardless of what they are, because it’s an in-depth look at flawed thought patterns across multiple characters and how they led to and enabled violence. That said, I was able to make it through it okay despite a prior PTSD diagnosis (among other things) related to something similar, and I really value and appreciate this for what it is. You’re an adult who can choose to do what you would like, but as someone who’s been there and managed to get better, I’d strongly and compassionately advise against it. That goes for anyone even with anxiety or depression who isn’t necessarily at risk for DV. Just my thoughts; keep it on your TBR to look forward to for when you’re doing better :)

this book was SO surprising. def one of the better colleen hoover books ive read. ive seen a lot of negative things about it but aside from that i went in completely blind in terms of the storyline and characters and was pleasantly surprised. the characters backstory felt real, and the journey through lily's past through her diary entries was a great way to write it. yeah the writing is a bit juvenile, but colleen hoover clearly writes for a mass audience and her stories are really accessible and easy to digest for people who dont read much, which i think is a good thing. ive never experienced domestic violence before so reading this was really eye opening. i found it to be gripping from the beginning and was completely invested in it. definitely give it a read - if you're someone who is a seasoned reader and appreciates more complex writing and stories this wont be for you, but if that doesnt bother you then its worth it all the way.

one negative review i read talked about how hoover was glorifying DV bc it was marketed as a love triangle and bc of quotes like 'no ones a bad person sometimes we just do bad things'. idk how it was marketed so if it was shown to be a love triangle thats def questionable, but this book is written from the perspective of someone being abused by their partner. i felt that it seemed to be a very real depiction of the kinds of thoughts someone might have. just like lily said, when youre looking from the outside in its so easy to think that youd just walk away without a seconds thought but its so hard to cut off someone you love. i can imagine there would be parts of you that would want to give them the benefit of the doubt. im not sure what colleens intention was when writing it but shes not an idiot, i dont think she would be glorifying an abusive relationship. especially considering lily does end up leaving ryle. i feel like its an uncomfortable but likely real depiction of what causes people who stay in abusive relationships.

the way that lily acts towards ryle when he claims he would change made me extremely mad, like leave him permanently!! but overall it was a rollercoaster of emotions and made me EXTREMELY tense during some parts and those are the kind of books that i LOVE. it displays acts of physical abuse from spouses/partners and also tells you options on what to do. i love how this book displays what some women/men have to go through. according to me overall, i give this book a perfect 5 according to the storyline and pace! (took me 3 nights to read it whole because of how the book had me CLINGING) but according to my emotions, a 4.75 because of how often i cried (not joking.)

Colleen Hoover-It ends with us (suom. Sirpa Parviainen)

3.5⭐

Finished at 22:12 on 26th of november

This book made me cry, laugh, cringe, disgusted and sometimes all of it. Especially the end, the end made me feel empty.

It deserves 3.5 stars, the writing was okay, cover is just text and bland, spicy scenes were written very well and traumatic scenes were written well too.

I think the cover is a refence for the 2nd time Ryle assaults Lily, when he drops the flower pot and they stare at it.

This book got me out of the reading slump that I was in for months at a time!

I wish Atlas would've had a bigger role in the book but I understand that by putting him as a side character made him feel like a better choice for Lily.

I enjoyed reading this and I feel like I could not have made a better choice on ending this! I will probably not read the series because I bought the book before knowing what Colleen had done (which was also the reason I put this down so many times).

And I also don't have any motivation to read her books anymore after learning the stuff she had done!

My first book review!

I didn't love it as much as Ugly Love and I had some mixed feelings about the way the characters were introduced, but now I finished it, I can say it gets better and I did enjoy it.

Would I read it again for the first time reading this? Yes, I would.
