I absolutely adore Holly Black's writing, and this was no exception. Even though it's a children's novel, she has such a way of writing emotionally charged characters who speak with a lot of undertone that really resonates with me. I thought this was going to be a creepy doll ghost story, but it turned out to be so much more. It's a coming of age, tale of friendship, as they navigate leaving behind childhood and growing out of imaginative play. The adventure they go on is not as much about putting a doll to rest as it is about finding themselves and discovering their values and beliefs, who they can trust, and how much they want to risk in hopes of characterizing themselves and defining their own identities in the world. Absolutely loved it. And I'm a 38yo adult. Will be reading it with my 10yo soon!

A spooky, yet strangely mundane, tale. In short: three friends go on an adventure to bury a haunted doll in her hometown, while simultaneously kind of trying to save their friendship. For me the scariest character wasn't the haunted doll, it was Tinshoe Jones, a vagrant-type creeper who actually had me wondering if this children's novel wasn't going to take a turn down assault lane.

This seems to be happening more frequently, but I really enjoyed the three main characters, who I thought were all nicely dimensional. Not all flaws, nor all perfection, they were real portraits of middle-school aged kids who are trying to reconcile themselves to growing up.

- Poppy.

Panenka z kostí je příběhem dětí. Příběhem o fantazii a o kráse porušování pravidel.
Líbila se mi.

Meh, idk lol. I for some reason could not get into this. I think I was expecting a different vibe of a book - like a short creepy read about a haunted doll. It ended up being a lot more wordy and uninteresting to me than I anticipated. It’s possible that it also could have been the fact that I listened on audiobook. Sometimes that platform can be hit or miss
