While a little slow at times, this book was an incredible exploration of generational trauma and the power that our stories have.

The ending felt a bit rushed but it was beautifully written and I loved the different POVs

A fairytale retelling that feels familiar. A brother and sister - who have a very interesting ancestry - inherit the house on chicken legs and apparently a man that follows.

This book has beautiful prose, sometimes not for its own good either. While it could be a stunning and gorgeous read at times, it was also occasionally very, very slow and hard to get through. If you want a book packed full of surprises, you aren't really going to find that here, either. What you will find, though, is a book of interesting characters, wonderful writing, emotional journeys, and multiple POV's (even one from the cottage itself). While it isn't exactly a gentle read - you should look up the TW - it was a great one.

If it were like 50-75 pages shorter maybe it could have been 5 stars but that ending man it was powerful

Wonderfully written book!!!

Isaac & Bellatine Yaga inherit a house on chicken legs from their mother’s twice great grandmother from Ukraine. Isaac is in New Orleans and Bellatine is in Vermont. They have not seen each other in a few year but each make their way to New York to accept the shipment coming from the Ukraine that has been in storage for 70 years. What mysteries does it hold? Can they unlock the secret of the mural in the attic? Can they figure out how to command the house on chicken legs to move? And why is someone following them?

This is such a treasure of a book, I am so glad to have finally read it. It is lush and detailed, moving and energetic. Mixed in with the magical there is a deep sense of urgency and fear, captures the prescient sense of the dangers of alienation and the insidiousness of oppression.
