I have been reading Sandra Brown books for as long as I can remember and still rank [b:Envy|76179|Envy|Sandra Brown|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1263146546s/76179.jpg|82614] as one of my favourites of all time. In recent years however they haven't been very good, and I made a decision to stop reading Sandra Brown novels.
I found 'Deadline' in the library and after a very deep internal debate, I picked it up, sold on the one fac that I wasn't paying.

I am so very glad that I did because it really was an on the edge of your seat novel. It was so slow to start that I thought I was going to hate it, but it was like a saucepan - it was simmering slowly, and then some bubbles started to erupt, a few breaks in the gentle surface, and then it really began to boil and bubble and then suddenly there is such a twist that BAM! And did they stop here? By gawd no! They just kept coming like shots at the Golden Branch Shoot out! BAM! BAM! BAAAAAMMMMM!

Totally awesome.

I have already recommended it to two people!

It's officially summer...I've read Sandra Brown...I like that her protagonists are complex characters with strengths and weaknesses. I like that there are some topical issues in the stories. I don't expect the issues to be resolved, but I appreciate that attention has been brought. For this book, it's PTSD, and the hardships of those who serve in combat or who witness...

The bad guy...ugh. Almost unbelievable because he is so thoroughly evil. I want to believe there are NOT people in the world like this.

The twist was a piece of information that the hero keeps until the end...

This was my first Sandra Brown story and I enjoyed it enough that I will definitely be reading more of her backlist. There were a few nice twists and the romance part of this romantic suspense story was fine. This story didn't blow me away, but it was entertaining and was easy to dip in and out of over the holiday.

Finally!
I have never taken such a long time to finish a Sandra Brown book but I just couldn't get into it until the end probably because of the military theme which is not my thing.

Brown's writing is always superb though and aside from the subject it was still an interesting read.

I found myself more interested in Jeremy, I thought his story would have made a better hero than Dawson if he wasn't murdering anyone that is.

Deadline is a novel about magazine writer named Dawson Scott (Male). Dawson has a seen a number of things in his lifetime and is something incredible. P.S won't know what make him incredible until the third to last chapter. He goes to Savannah for a trial that is very personal to his family and super personal to him. At the trial, he meets Amelia, the ex-wife to supposedly dead Jeremy Wesson. 40 years ago in 1976, there was a huge shootout at a town called Golden Branch. The criminal in charge of the shootout was Carl Wingert. Wingert is the most wanted felony for the FBI. Floral Stimel gave birth on that faith day right before and during the shootout. But there is a secret that no one knows about when it comes to this messed up bloodline. Sorry, don't give spoilers you will have to read the book and find out. Dawson is intrigued with Amelia personally and professionally. Amelia grows close to Dawson as Dawson grows to her. Sadly there relationship is everything but easy and uncomplicated. While everything is going on with possibilities of fake death, love, mysteries behind everyone, there is also murder in this unique equation. Find out who dies and who lives? What love will transpire? What secrets and mysteries are everyone keeping? Read Deadline another great novel created by Sandra Brown.

Deadline by Sandra Brown is a Grand Central Publication and will be released on September 24, 2013.

Amelia is a widow with two children. She has removed herself from public life as much as possible. Her deceased husband, Jeremy, was murdered by his lover's husband and now Amelia is having to testify at his trial.
This has brought out reporters and other media, causing Amelia to attempt to keep a low profile.
However, she never suspects someone would go so far as to move in right next door and break in to her home and spy on her. Which is exactly what Dawson did, and he got he caught- by Amelia.
Dawson, like Amelia's former husband, is suffering for PTSD. Dawson was a reporter covering the war effort. He came home with horrible nightmares and has resorted to popping pills and drinking too much.

When he gets a phone call about covering this trial, he has other reasons for agreeing to it. He never expected to be so drawn to Amelia or her two boys.

Amelia is furious at being spied on, so she and Dawson get off to a rather rocky start. But, Amelia's boys just love Dawson and before long, Amelia grudgingly opens up to Dawson a little.
However, there have been some rather odd occurrences going on around Amelia's home. She suspects Dawson at first, but he swears he knows nothing about it.

Then during a storm, when Amelia's nanny goes into to town for some supplies and never comes back, the investigation opens up the possibility that Jeremy may not have been murdered by his lover's husband after all.

While we are pondering on all that, we are given excepts into Jeremy's childhood through a diary his mother kept. Jeremy's parents were vigilantes and his father was particularly cruel.
Jeremy didn't fit in with that lifestyle so his parents gave him to a friend to raise.
Things might have been alright with Jeremy, but he came back from the war a changed man. Or did he?
Since Jeremy's father, Carl, was never found, was it possibly the two of them finally met after Jeremy became an adult? What impact would it have on him to know his father was a killer?
Amelia never knew anything about Jeremy's past, but she is quickly getting a lesson from Dawson of all people.

This would have to be one of the most different novels by Sandra Brown that I have read. This one called attention to the horrors and realities of war. The PTSD suffered by men and women who see things we couldn't possibly imagine and the effect that has on their coping mechanism.
The plot is twisted. So many lives were manipulated by one hard, cold, killer. A man hunt that has lasted for years, the danger Amelia and her sons are in, and the secrets Dawson are keeping, has the suspense mounting.

The feelings that develop between Dawson and Amelia can only grow once Dawson is able to come to some kind of peace in regards to his past. Not only about his PTSD, but about his heritage. I loved the way he managed to use his gifts as a reporter to bring about closure, not only for himself, but for many others as well.
This is a multi-layered story with Brown's usual twist and turn type romantic suspense, but there were many other issues at hand in this one. I recommend this one to all the lovers of romantic suspense and mysteries, but this one could also appeal to those that like women's fiction and contemporary romance.
Another solid effort by Sandra Brown. This one is an A.

I am comparing this to the last four Sandra brown books I have read back to back and I just didn't like it as much as the others. It was more predictable and less urgent than the last books. It seems those were the elements that have kept me devouring her books. I will set her aside for a bit.

REREAD I DONT KNOW WHY BUT I LOST INTEREST IN THIS STORY AT ABOUT 60% I started the book not remembering a lot and enjoying it until over halfway and had to push myself to finish.
