This had the same heist-y fun as the first book, but the plot and character development went even further.  The first part of the book starts three years after the end of the first book.  We see where our ragtag group of Foundrysiders have gone and what they've been up to.  The action starts pretty much right away and it just ESCALATES.  So much development in the first part and then it's just ABSOLUTE CRAZINESS in the second half!  I got entirely sucked in and cursed the length of the book because it competed with my stupid need for sleep and getting to work on time.   There were some truly hilarious moments, some truly moving moments, and all of it added to the absolute devastation by the end of the book.  Like, what the heck is this author doing to his readers? WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING ANYMORE IN THIS STORY.  I hate it and I love it and I need the third book now.

Same thoughts as the last book, easy to read, engaging world and plot, like the characters but wishing we got way more of their back stories, interactions, just more character time

This is a somewhat reluctant 4 stars? The middle portion of the book dragged and was highly technical with the world's magic, plus there were some very gory bits that I skimmed through. That said, holy shit the ending. I figured something was going to happen with Gregor but I was not expecting specifically that. I will be grabbing the next installment because I want to know what new hijinx Sancia and Berenice get up to.

I love it when a sequel goes above and beyond its predecessor. Shorefall raises the stakes so astronomically high, but manages to carry over all the best aspects you love from Foundryside—especially the characters that are the beating heart of this story. They've grown greatly since we last saw them, but they’ve all progressed naturally in incredibly satisfying ways. If you liked Foundryside, strap yourself in for a wild ride with Shorefall!
