Haunting. Beautifully written. Unreal.

I attempted to read this book years ago, but gave up only 100 or so pages in. I saw it sitting on my bookshelf and I am so unbelievably happy that I picked it up again.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. So well written. So beautiful. So tragic. I am so sad to leave Madeleine, Jack, Mimi, Colleen, Rex, and Ricky. I want more. The 800+ pages were not enough. I want more.

And I want to punch Marjorie Nolan in the throat.

Not super into her style, and by halfway through I found the molestation too disturbing to continue reading.

The middle of the book was getting a bit boring, a lot of military jargon and arms/space race talk that I found really hard to enjoy reading. Once I was past that, the remainder of the book was really hard to put down. Great book, loved the ending.

i really enjoyed the first half of the book, but after the 20+yr gap it just felt like an entirely different book with new characters. the murder was predictable but i appreciated the way madeleine dealt with it all near the end. i thought madeleine and the other children were portrayed accurately as gr4's. i liked the little references about canada, but sometimes it was a little overplayed.

could've been shorter but overall a good read.

I read this a long time ago and remember loving it, but had forgotten the details. A wonderful reread and still 5 solid stars.

highly disturbing but hauntingly well written
