I think kids would like this book. They are the audience. I didn't realize that when I purchased it. I listened on audible for a readathon and just couldn't get into it even though I finished it.
I would not be opposed to trying a young adult book by this author. I just didn't fit into the right age group to enjoy it.
Furthermore, I didn't realize this could was book 13 in a series. Perhaps starting at the beginning would have helped me know the characters and the story line.

I really love Sundew as a character--it feels as if the series hadn't had a truly "spunky/angry" character since Tsunami, and I was missing it a little bit. Sundew is fantastic, and so is the plot twist in this one. One of my favorite books of the series overall.

Another excellent exploration of finding friendships, coming to terms with a complicated history, and making decisions. Includes a sweet lesbian dragon romance. Bumblebee is a delight.
This is the third book in the arc and you really should read books 11 and 12 first (but you don't have to read books 1-10).
My recommendation for reading order of the Wings of Fire (WoF) series:
WoF #1-5
WoF Legends - Darkstalker
WoF #6-14
WoF Legends - Dragonslayer (this could be read after book #5, but that would spoil a sweet surprise present in book #14)
The WoF books follow a five book plot arc (with each book covering the growth arc of one character). If book 1 doesn't work for you, consider starting with book 6 or 11 to get invested in the world. Each book adds to the complexity of culture and history in the world, so you may miss a little if you skip books, but the overall plot and story will work.

This is my favorite book of the series. I absolutely love the idea of leafspeak. I love Sundew.
Sundew Reminds me so much of Winter; Tough outside, soft inside. However, I feel like I can get more on Sundew's side. Her anger is justifiable but even that is questioned within this book. It is what I really appreciate about Sutherland's writing, making the characters you see though in the book, question their own motives and also being able to see them and other characters grow.
The multiple twist at the end were really great. As usual, the last couple chapters made me want to read and read and read. I also love the love story in this book. There is not a lot of love stories between two dragons in these books but I love Sundew and Willow's relationship. I also love how Sutherland writes it, full of doubt as many times when you are falling in love, you often ask the same type of questions.
I can't wait for the next book!

The pace is uneven and substantially slower in the first half.
