Difficult language due to being written in the late 60’s but interesting plot, sorta a standard dystopian novel in diary form.

There were aspects of this book that I really enjoyed and other aspects that I did not.
For example, the writing style was really enjoyable and it kept me engaged and connected with the story the whole way through, additionally the description of the hotel and its grounds painted a practical yet gorgeous and very detailed image in my mind throughout.
However, the characters lacked depth or anything that would make me want to root for them, and the ending was so open-ended that it seemed unfinished. I understand that this is a stylistic choice, and I do think open-endedness is good (or better), in certain situations but in this novel there, to me, was too much left unanswered for there to be a satisfactory or gratifying ending at all.
I did like that a lot of story was packed into such a short novel without it seeming rushed or too dense, and I thought that the anonymity of a lot of the non-main characters added more mystery and realism to the book, which I appreciated and enjoyed.
I look at the first two thirds of the novel with more fondness than I do the final third. And overall, I am glad that I read it and experienced the story, and I do look at it as a whole more positively than not, but I probably would not reread it.
