This was a tough nut to crack. I should’ve liked it, really. But the relationship went from “what are these feelings” to “wow you’re inside me” super fast. I also disliked how the primary conflict in the second half doesn’t feel like I got all the meat out of it that I wanted. The scenes where supernatural conflict occurs felt stunted and left me wanting more…but in an unsatisfied way.
I so very much enjoyed this! The mid chapter POV changes were a little confusing at times (especially in audio), but while that's normally a dealbreaker for me, it was definitely not here! I loved the characters so much and cannot wait for the next round of adventures
Audio review- this book was much funnier than I was expecting. I found myself frustrated with Octavius until I just let myself accept that his character is simply ridiculous. After that acceptance I enjoyed the book a lot more. This was my first listen by this narrator and I enjoyed him immensely.
I can't decide how I feel about this book. It wasn't quite what I was expecting from the blurb. The story was a bit haphazard, it was very gory and there was a bit of a love story mixed in with some quite random cases. The characters didn't really feel very fleshed out and the world building quite 2 dimensional, but most of all, it was childish. I was hoping for some ridiculous fluff, but that's not what this was. Bit disappointed really. 2.75*

I found this book enjoyable and I will definitely continue with this series. It was a pleasant change to read about a vampire that is not super organised and did things on the fly and turning into a cute bat. Octavius was such an adorable character. What started as a way to earn money Turney was a surprising character as I did expect him to come over across as cocky but he wasn't add a sassy zombie and the detective agency was born.
The cases were quick with some more difficult to solve and I enjoyed that there was not just one case to solve, it kept the story flowing.
Whilst there was insta-attraction, the relationship was not rushed and you can see how Turney trusted Octavius.
As I said I will definitely carry on with this series
