If you love enemies to lovers, but like real enemies, like sworn mortal enemies, blades (or claws) at throat ready to k*ll each other first chance they get, looks filled with absolute vitriol and hate... look no further. I'm always in awe of Aveda's worldbuilding and imagination and they did not fail to impress again.

This is a short & (not so) sweet prequel for the upcoming full-length and man, am I excited for the follow-up after reading.
It's a bit bloody, very kinky, and hot all the way through.

This left me needing a cigarette and I don't even smoke. Aveda, please, I need the full-length!!!!!!

Check TWs please

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you go into this having read all the Content Warnings/Kinks beforehand, I think this is great monster smut! This short novella is around 50 pages of fun times. I liked the writing and I think the sex scenes were written really well. I cannot tell you how hard I was punching air at the conversations about consent and safewording that happened all throughout the smut scenes. There are a few reasons why I did not give this five stars. For starters, I was absolutely confused by the world-building for the first chunk of the novel. I know lots of people are not going into this for the world building but I was LOST! Secondly, some of these kinks just weren’t my thing. Nothing wrong with that! I just can’t give five stars to something that I am not obsessed with. Last, it gives me major ick when the term ‘assault’ is used during sex scenes in books. It’s just not sexy at all. The term was used twice in this book and it jarred me and took me out of the story each time. I do believe this story, just as any story, has the potential to be triggering to readers so please ensure you are looking at the content information before going into it! I knew all the CWs beforehand and there was still a few lines that made me tense up and need a second. Overall, this was a great read! I cannot wait to read more of Aveda Vice’s stuff!

Topes: Forced marriage of convenience, after-battle adrenaline, enemies who fuck.
