Я получила нереальное удовольствие от чтения этой книги! Она очень милая, добрая, забавная, да и рождественская атмосфера тут тоже довольно хорошая.
Дэш — серьезный и чуточку угрюмый по поводу зимних праздников парень, который любит торчать в книжном магазине, обсуждать книги и цитировать поэзию. Он избегает празднование Рождества, как и обоих своих разведенных родителей в эти дни.
Лили — мечтательная девчонка с кучей родственников по всему Нью-Йорку, которые заботятся о ней. Она любит романтичные штучки, собак, своего дедулю и брата, но довольно одинока. И еще уверена, что все считают ее чудачкой.
Однажды старший брат Лили и его парень предлагают ей завести друга, оставив записную книжку с небольшим квестом в книжном магазине, которую успешно находит Дэш.
Мне нравится, что хотя Дэшу и Лили по шестнадцать, а в книге мелькают взрослые темы секса, выпивки и отношений, они ведут себя как подростки из прошлого, а не среднестатистические зумеры-гигачады из современных сериалов: переписываются через блокнот, оставляют его в разных местах города и дают на это подсказки, ходят есть шоколадную пиццу с кузенами и недавно обретенными знакомыми, мечтают получить в подарок словарь и нелепо бродят по городу в одном сапоге, потому что так тебя точно узнает твой друг по переписке.
Я бы сказала, что они оба немного manic pixie girl друг для друга, но в хорошем смысле этого слова. И все вокруг них доброе и уютное — от примирения с бывшей девушкой, которая стала сейчас хорошей подругой, до пожилых друзей дедули, которые грозятся твоим потенциальным ухажерам, чтобы те тебя не обидели.
Книга напомнила мне «Дневники принцессы» и «Союз волшебные штаны», так что если вам понравилось то, то понравится и это. И перевод на русский получился очень-очень хорошим.
Единственный небольшой минус заключается в том, что я ждала супер романтичной встречи главных героев, которые будут к тому моменту уже влюблены без памяти, но романтика в этой книге стоит далеко не на первом месте. Как и Рождество — но читать ее лучше всего зимой.

I'm giving this 5 stars for several reasons. To start with I loved the quirky characters and the writing style in both voices. I also thought it was a fresh story that was both smart and funny. I loved the made up Pixar movie about the stapler and the piece of paper. Last but not least, I couldn't put it down and read well into the early morning despite all the things I needed to get up and do the next day.

A fun, sweet and light read. Great for a t(w)een looking for something to lift their spirits. I’m not the target audience, but I’d definitely recommend it to a younger reader.

It was a cute enough book. I think that Netflix honestly took the best bits of the book and made a better series. Some of the details and stories that were left out as well as the tweaks improved an otherwise somewhat generic YA romance.

This was a fun light read. For some reason though I was not aware that this was more of a holiday type of book.

They enlist their family and friends to contribute to drop off and collection points daring each other into wild and not so crazy situations. As they move closer to meeting they discover that they are not sure of themselves and each other.
The story is well written and causes me to wonder if I would have gone through with some of the antics these two go through. It's a bit of a pen pal in the city, close but no where near each other. There is humor and seriousness causing a nice balance of realism.

Firstly, I loved this book for its wonderfully exuberant use of the English language. Any novel using the words, persnickety, germane and epistolary gets a high star rating from me. Then we have the wonderful characters of bookish Dash and nerdish Lily who are impossible not to love and cheer on throughout their quest to find 'The One' supported by a cast of friends, family and animals. Filled with laugh out loud moments but also thought provoking passages that I found myself rereading and wanting to share, this is a book that will make you reach for a red moleskin notebook to embark upon your own adventure.
Wonderful! Touching, sweet, believable and at times, laugh-out-loud funny. Reading stories about teenagers that are nice to each other is so refreshing! Bring on more by these authors!
Not bad, but not super great either. The same could be said of Levitan and Cohn’s other book like this, Nick and Nora’s infinite playlist. I (like many, I assume) saw the Netflix show Dash and Lily first, so I spent a lot of time comparing, and there were some instances in this book which seemed a little far fetched, and I enjoyed the dares of the show a bit more, though both the book and their show had their own good and bad ones. I will read the other two books because I’m the type that finished a series when he starts it, but I’m keeping my expectations in the middle.
